ParticipantHi there,
I bought a brand new FFA97 frost free fridge freezer at the end of November/beginning of December last year. It is just 3 months old and it has broken. The Freezer completely defrosts on its own and then refreezes. Obviously not happy we called Hotpoint who sent an engineer out today to fix it. He said the module PCB needed replacing and went to his van to fetch the control board to replace it. He encountered some problems becauset he new board did not look like the old board and after some discussions on the phone he was told to remove a tab from the edge connector plug to accomodate the new module so it would fit in.
The new board I saw was completely different than the old one he removed and he said that the board was an old one and the fridge freezer was actually around 3 years old, but still in production. We were under the impression it was new on the market..Anyway…the long and short of it is..Hes gone away now after replacing the board and hes accidently left some tools and the old board on top of the fridge. I have just looked at the old board he removed and it has a sticker on it which says FFA90 and its ID number.
Does this sound right? That a board with an FFA90 sticker should have been fitted in a brand new FFA97 Fridge freezer? We have lost all confidence in the fridge now and dont want to end up in a situation a year down the line when the warranty expires and then we dont have a leg to stand on. We feel a new fridge would remove our concerns, not a repair with a marker on it in case of future probs and a few quid for the food we lost , at only 3 months old!! What do you think?
Are we right to feel like this?
Can someone please advise us.We paid a lot of money for this fridge almost 400 pounds for it to break 3 months later.
Many thanksFebruary 20, 2006 at 5:21 pm #166256mutley

The FFA97( first produced april 2005) is basically a facelift of the FFA90 and shares many common parts including the module which is the same for both models. Whilst there were a few teething problems with this range they have been sorted long ago, and so you are unlucky to have a module failure. I doubt if Hotpoint would exchange it at this stage as there is a very good chance you will have no further problems.
hope this helps

Thanks for your reply Mutley. I hope we have no further problems as Hotpoint have told us this afternoon that they wont replace the fridge as it is now in working order. We will have to run with it now, and keep our fingers crossed. 🙄
Thanks again.

Your Hotpoint engineer was correct – the FFA90 first appeared around the summer of 2003
Still – on the bright side you seem to have acquired a some free tools!
