    Hello,

Washing Machine has very loud spin noise and lumpy drum movement when turned by hand. I Have a go and are usually succesful at fixing most things but not sure if the bearings can easily be replaced using household tools or whether this needs tools or techniques that are outside the scope of a home repair.

I have to admit its integrated and a pain to get out so i want to fix it in one go, have not removed and inspected yet but it does not feel like it could me motor friction transfering through the belt to the drum

model AEG 1051 sensortronic – 8 years old
    prod number is 914879005 01
    type is P6416609

    Thank you

Thanks for the link, and based on the comment below I think it best to let an engineer handle this.

“This machine requires you to split the casing and remove the entire drum assembly in order to change the bearings. A complete cow of a job – “

Does anybody know an approx estimate for labour and parts to sort this?

I didn’t quite get that right – it is a split case machine, but the bearings are in a removable crosspiece on the back of the tank, so it shouldn’t have to be removed in its entirety unless the drum shaft is damaged.

Bearing and seal set will be in the order of £25-35. Labour rates vary widely across the country, so you should sort this out when you contact your repairer.

one last question, it has been like this approx 2 weeks, is it likely the drum shaft is damaged, if so whats the cost of this part (approx)

    many thanks

Drum and shaft assembly is around £70, so not that bad. I haven’t had to change one yet.

Obviously, the sooner you can get the work done, the better.

machine is 8 years old and other than a small leak this is the first issue, haven’t even changed the brushes and we are a family of 4 so its gets used alot.

would definetly buy another AEG, if i can get if fixed for £150 ok, if more do you think its better to spend the ~£550 for a new integrated AEG/NEFF

Mmm – 8 years of family use; pretty heavy going. My personal opinion would be to get the whole thing checked over – get the motor brushes done and probably the drain pump motor as well and it should be good for a few more years yet. If you do this as one job, the on-cost won’t be too bad.

If you are considering replacement, I’d take the NEFF.
