We’re are looking to purchase a new w/m.

We are after a decent, reliable machine and are prepared to pay more for it. Unfortunately we have an open plan kitchen/living room and therefore noise is an important issue.

So we are willing to spend upto 500 or 600. We would like a reliable machine with a decent drum size (5kg+) but it has to be as quiet as possible!

    curryman,

Without question your first option would be to look at the Miele range of machines. Pure quality in a metal box, and quiet too. 😉

Bosch or Siemens a good second best I reckon, several models to choose!

Thank for your advice. I will take a look at the weekend. Its good to get advice without talking to the disinterested staff in most shops (C 🙁 rrys). Thanks again.

Hi curryman Not only are they quiet but they also come with a two year guarantee parts and labour in the 500 to 600 bracket. The higher the price ticket the better the guarantee, up to ten years on the top of the range machines.

Re: Advice on W/Machine, good quality, quiet

Ok so a Miele it is then!

Any further advice on the model?

    From the miele website

the W 2444 WPS seems superb with ‘Quiet + sound insulation’ and a 10yr parts/labour warrenty but a tad pricey (and probably out of our budget) at £737+ (KelKoo)

the W 2240 has the same 10 yr warranty but only ‘Basic + sound insulation’ but from £663

Or the 2203 with a 5 yr warranty with only ‘Basic sound insulation’ from £570.

    So my final questions are:

Does anyone have any idea just how effective these increasing levels of sound insulation are? If the w2444 can run virtually unheard then we’ll pay the extra but if its just marginally quieter than the other 2 we’ll probably go for the 2240 (as we like the idea of an 10 yr warranty). Unless the 2203 is perceived as better value for money?

Thanks again for all your advice, its very much appriciated.

    curryman,

The only sure fact that you have discovered from your own investigations is reflected in what we know as fact in the trade. In that the higher up the ‘product range’ one goes, the greater the facilities, including sound insulation.

If the overall quietness of the machine is the pre-requisite, then you may have to go over budjet in order to attain that 🙁 I doubt if anyone would know or have access to knowing what the overall decibel rating is on any of the Miele range, to be honest. To my knowledge this is the first time the question has been asked, sorry 😕

I have a basic 1200 spin w/m myself, here at home. Its very quiet, far quieter than even the better Boschs or Siemans.
Bottom line is all Miele w/m are quiet.
However one thing to note…. if your going to get a Miele and its one of the 10yr g/tee honeycomb jobbies…be quick. I am reliably informed that they are stopping the 10 yr g/tee and going back to 5 yr only.
