ParticipantI’m really very grateful for the advice members of this forum have given on our Hotpoint Aquarius, whose bearings are clearly shot and which – because repair quotes are around £150, with no guarantee that that is the only fault – we’ve decided to replace.
As we’re intending to leave the country permanently in a couple of year (4 at most) – my wife is French – we’re looking for a machine which is relatively cheap and relatively reliable, but it does not have to last for ever.
My wife is set on the Hotpoint OHP14 (Currys, £279), largely because it has a start-delay which would enable us to set it going at night; we gather it’s noisy, but that’s not a problem (try living with an Aquarius with no bearings!)
We just wonder whether anyone has any comments or, even better, other recommendations, preferably for a sub-£350 machine with just basic facilities, but including the start delay.
All replies very much appreciated.March 24, 2010 at 9:52 am #316190don

Hi
With that budget leave the Hotpoint well alone, much better machine would be the Bosch WAE24364 much better build and a two year warranty.
Just out of interest the Hotpoint OHP14 you refer to, I cannot find on Curry`s site and Google doesn`t recognise it either. If the model no. is correct then it has to be a “special” for Curry`s.
HTH 🙂

CORRECTION CORRECTION CORRECTION
Am getting senile: I meant HOOVER (not Hotpoint!) in the original post.
Will check out the Bosch you gave the link to, though.
Thanks and apologies.

Hoover is even worse than the Hotpoint IMO. Stay with the Bosch.
That Hoover model no. on Google or Currys is still not recognised though 😉
edit: Found it it`s a Hoover OPH614-80 still wouldn`t buy it though 😉

Have gone for the Bosch WAE24364GB – currently on offer for £311 at Boots Kitchen Appliances (delivery, connection and recycling of old one are extra, as everywhere else.)
Again, thanks for all the friendly expert advice on offer here. -
