Advice wanted on Teka DW6 59 Problem

Good morning all and thank you for reading this. My mother in law has the Teka DW6 59 Dishwasher as listed in this other article on these forums

Hers is exactly the same except it now says made in Europe on the Technical label rather than made in Italy. Now our problem.

About 2 years ago it was making a funny noise followed by a couple of bangs and then when opened it gave off several blue sparks from inside the appliance. At this point she turned the machine off at the mains and hasn’t touched it since. She keeps meaning to get someone to look at it but so far hasn’t. Given it is now 2 years down the line from the initial problem is it worth calling anyone out to look at it given there may have been a leak to cause the initial problem and everything may have 2 years of corrosion damage as well.

Interesting question. Most recent SMEG built machines have a tube type heater under the tub, therefore, there is nothing in the tub itself to spark off. Yours (of course) may have a heater in the tub – tech info on these is just non-existant. If it does, check for cracks, blow holes or “fizzing”. Otherwise, I’d start by removing the outer door and checking the wiring loom at the hinge area for breaks. Failing that, you need to get to the base tray underneath and check for evidence of water leakage.

Thanks Penguin45 for the swift answer. I’ll check those this weekend but it probably means I’ll need to get a man in as I’m not the best engineer in the world. No problems about unplugging as it’s been disconected from the mains for the last 2 years.
