Whenever the main oven fan is used it trips the RCD in the fusebox. If main oven cooking is selected without fan assistance the oven heats/works normally, it only trips the RCD if the fan is used and it trips after about 30 secs. The motor blade turns freely.
I suspect the oven fan motor but would like confirmation please.

it looks like you have 2 types of oven in one
fan oven uses a rear circular element
convection oven uses the grill element and another under the floor

so its likely your fan element has failed

should be this one but check with shop before purchase

    Thanks for the reply Dave.
as I stated, the lower main oven is fan assisted and the element still heats the oven, the RCD only trips if you select the fan.
Are you saying there are two elements in the lower main oven and it’s the rear circular element that’s causing it to trip?

The answer to both questions would be yes, easy way to prove is to disconnect and insulate one wire from the element then turn on the fan oven. If it doesn’t trip you’ve proved the point.
please ensure that the mains power is turned off before working on the appliance.

Thanks, I’ll take it apart tomorrow and check it.
I’ve been repairing TV’s all my life and will, of course, make sure the cooker is isolated from it’s mains supply.

Hope you get it sorted, thinking about it it would be better to disconnect both wires from the element. If the element comes out from the front, you need to make sure that the wires don’t slip back through the holes. That can be a total pain in the backside, the only problem I can see is getting an element so you can repair it in time for Christmas. Good luck & please let us know how you get on.

    Thanks, will do.
I’m hoping “ukwhitegoods” have a trade counter and have parts in stock as I live quite near Kilmarnock.

Not sure about that to be honest, but I’m sure they’ll do their best to help you out. They’re really good people to deal with.

Well guys, just to say this is now fixed and the fan element was indeed the cause.
I removed the backplate covering the element and fan blade, removed the two screws securing the element which withdraws from the inside of the oven and removed the element connectors making sure they were well clear of each other and the surrounding metalwork.
I then switched on the power to the oven and selected fan assistance and ran it for about a minute without tripping the RCD whereas previously it tripped after about 15 secs.
Visual checks only showed one slightly dark mark on the element but an ohms check showed it to be O/C.

After taking notes of the part no on the element I phoned UK Whitegoods and spoke to a very helpful guy by the name of Alistair who then entered the part no into his database which then showed one original element in stock.
A quick 40 min drive to Kilmarnock and I was at the sales counter, met Alistair (a very helpful and friendly guy) and bought the replacement element with a nice discount off it to boot!
I returned home, fitted the element and was rewarded with a warm oven and no tripping RCD.

Thanks to all here for the quick replies and accurate diagnosis and Seasons Greetings to you.
