aeg 72630 update – fixable ?

My washing machine has stopped working. It makes a noise for about a minute but then stalls on any wash/spin/pump instruction. It does start to fill but will not spin or complete the pump out, though draining does start. There is no error code, but the top line of the last digit in the display is missing so for example o reads as u. I had an engineer replace the drum and bearings about 6 months ago after which it worked fine. He’s just been back to charge me £50 to have a look and say he doesn’t really know what’s wrong (maybe the control panel) and suggested a new one (new machine that is). It’s a good quality machine and I don’t really want to spend £500 + on an equivalent if I can repair it. Any thoughts advice as to what to try would be much appreciated.

What sort of noise does it make, e.g. filling noise? Rumbling noise from drum? etc.

What happens after it stops, e.g. does the machine show the cycle had ended, does it go blank, etc?

We really need a few more details 🙂

just the noise of it kicking into life – There is a click, then about 10/15 secs gentle hum and it fills but then it just seems to freeze. No code comes up, it just doesn’t move on. If I then turn dial off and try again on new setting there is a brief hum/drone and it stops again, as though it tried to get going but stalled. The start light flashes at this point but doesn’t respond to pressing.

Pump faulty or blocked, hoses blocked perhaps. Open filter & drain water, see if it spins o.k then.

It won’t spin until it is empty, so thats why I advised letting water out from filter. If it doesn’t tun motor perhaps theres a fault with the motor or cabling to it.
