Tried the frost-free diagnostic but doesn’t appear to cover this.
I’ve noticed that our frost free upright freezer appears to be “on” (compressor?) a lot more than it used to be. When I switch TV/lights etc off before bed, I have noticed it is nearly always humming away at this time now whereas it almost always never was.
Having looked at a parts diagram on the ‘net, I have identified the “non-storage” part inside the freezer carcass contains drainage heater, defrost heater and the like (evaporator?). We are noticing drips of water coming from here and icing on the front doors of the storage compartments. Not masses of them – no massive buildup or anything like that. Originally thought it was my disabled son opening the door but we now have a childproof lock on the door.
We suspect that the problem may have originated with one of the several weather related power cuts we have had this winter. Most likely that – I have also brushed the heating grid on the back of the freezer recently to remove dust.
Freezer is maintaining temperature (just working harder I think). Door seal looks OK. Door working as expected.
Does this sound repairable or terminal? AEG Arctis – 2494-6GA. I noted that several of the parts in this area are no longer available from the AEG website.
Many thanks,
Alan..
