    Hi

Like a number of AEG Arctis users, I too have the “ice build up” issue. Mine happens every 2 months or so, and is due to the meltwater from the evaporator not staying frozen long enough during the thaw cycle, and re-freezing at the bottom of the freezer, blocking up the drainage hole. Repeated thawing and refreezing creates a build up, which after about 2 months creates enough ice to block up over half the evaporator. Once some critical blockage level is reached, there is not enough evaporator area available to maintain temperature and requires defrosting to put right.

I have checked impedance of the heater and it registeres 393 ohms which I thnk means it is OK.

I have checked the thermistors, and it is here I need some help:

There are two thermistors. One registers a small resistance (1 ohm) when cold (closed circuit I assume), and if I heat it with a hair dryer, it registers infinite resistance (open circuit). The second thermistor registers 0hms when hot or when cold and is therefore closed at all times. I am not sure this should be the case otherwise why have it at all.

Could someone more knowledgebale than me on these matters let me know what the second thermistor should do?

I can then decide whether to spend the 40 odd quid they charge for new ones!!

    thanks

    Hi Naethan,

It should be this set I think you mean. Two thermistors or “cut outs” as Electrolux call them that control the defrost cycle.

Yes, I would say one of them was faulty for sure as you should get some response from both but there’s no technical documentation for that machine I can check against.
