    AEG Upright Freezer
    Model: 75238-GA1
    Product No: 922045871
    Serial No: 62102201

    4 to 5 Years old.

We woke this morning to the sound of the freezer alarm. The temperature was -12 instead of -18.

It seems to be running i.e. display working and I can hear it running when I put my ear to the door.

The temperature went down to -5 then we emptied it and switched it off.

Any advice on what the problem could be would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks.

Fan jammed by excess ice formation is the common fault with these, defrost appliance completely & start up again to see if problem is resolved, fan motor kit replacement may be necessary if this fault re-occurs again.

    Thanks for the reply.

After being off for 48 hours, I switched it back on today at around 6pm and it steadily decreased in temperature to about -14 at around 9pm.

I heard the alarm a few moments ago and it’s up to -11.

Could this still be the fan motor?

    Thanks again.

I’d be trying a new fan motor then, they can slow down with age. Not an easy job to replace though.

Re: AEG ARCTIS 75238-GA1 Freezer problem

I had the Service Force technician out today and after making a visual inspection , his description of the fault is “Evaporator low frostline due to weak compressor”.

He said the compressor needs changing (£165.52, and £140.87 with some discount) – £220 all in.

AEG won’t offer any contribution for the part with it being over 2 years old (3 and a bit years) apart from delivering me a new discounted freezer for £400.

    Thanks for the info though.

    Cheers.

Re: AEG ARCTIS 75238-GA1 Freezer problem

    Another update.

I asked the Service Force technician if it would be worthwhile re-gasing/oiling the freezer to rule out a leak before he fits the compresssor.

It turned out the compressor he had was the wrong one for this model anyway, and he agreed to pressure test the system and re-gas.

48 hours later and the freezer seems to be running fine. Looks like I their initial diagnosis of a ‘burnt-out’ compressor may have been a little premature.

    Lets see how we go.
