    Hi,

We’ve recently moved into a new house with an AEG B 2.60 D electric convection and fan oven with grill. The fan works, elements heat to red hot whether in convection or fan oven mode and the thermostat light works (switching on and off when you rotate it left and right around the actual temperature.

However, it seems to take ages to heat up properly and generally seems to only really get suitably hot to cook anything by turning the temperature right up to 250 degrees.

So, the first question is does anyone know what might be wrong?
But the second question is how do I find out what’s wrong?

Please reply, even to say you don’t know what’s wrong so I at least know that my posting has worked ….

    Thanks,

PS – the lamp in the oven doesn’t work, if that’s relevant? ..

UPDATE: I’ve bought an oven thermometer and watched how long it takes to heat up. In fan oven mode, set to 200 degrees, it took over an hour to even get to 100 degrees. In convection mode it heated up in a good, short, amount of time but only got to 190 when set at 250. In fact, turning the temperature control knob with the oven at different temperatures showed that it was consistantly turning the element(s) off at about 60 degrees below the temperature set on the knob.

Any ideas anyone? Might I have two elements and only one is working? Is the whole problem simply that the thermostat is broken? Or has the fact that the lamp isn’t working got anything to do with it?

    UPDATE 2:
I’ve fixed the oven lamp with a new bulb but am not surprised that the heating problems remain . . . HELP!!

At a brief guess I would suggest that you have a thermostat problem but can you post the PNC number and I can look at it more closely. PNC number is located on a label perhaps in the oven door jam.

    Dales-Electronic,

Thanks for your reply! At Last some kind soul’s taken an interest in my problem!

Anyway, can’t find a PNC number. Sticker on the door jam has the following:

    AEG Mod. B 2.60 D w E Nr 611 565 928 F.NR. 127042626

    Does that help?

OK here we go. The oven has one square element behind the fan cover for use during the fan oven phase. It has a further two elements, one at the top and one at the bottom of the oven which are switched in during conventional operation. One the subject of control of temperature, I would suggest that you might replace the oven thermostat which has a part number of 661188341. I would further hazard a guess that one of the two conventional elements have gone, which is why it takes so long to reach a minimum temp. Hope that helps. Good luck – Ian.

Ian, thanks so much for checking this out for me.

Is the fan element used in convection mode and is only the fan element used in fan mode? What’s strange is that it takes so long to heat up in fan mode but there is heat … it’s not like the fan element has gone completely. The top element works fine (it’s exposed in the oven and I can see it red hot. So, I’m guessing the bottom element is the one that’s gone, along with the thermostat which does work but clearly not correctly . . .
