ParticipantHi folks, I’ve just come across this forum whilst searching the Web, looking for solutions to an oven problem.
Whilst cooking lunch today, the oven seems to have tripped an MCB. When switching back on I noticed that there was no oven light, and the fans weren’t running (no air being blown from cooling fan, and the oven fan wasn’t working). I’ve spotted that this seems to be a common problem on these AEG ovens, and that replacing the http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/product_ … cts_id=349 Part can cure this. I’ve removed the oven and checked this part and it doesn’t seem to show any signs of having ‘burnt out’.
My dilemma stems from the fact that now (a few hours after lunch) I’ve switched the oven back on and the light and both fans have come on; however the temperature light is staying lit, when it usually goes out when the oven reaches temp’. (The oven is getting hot, and when switched to grill I can see the element heating up)
Could there be another component that is at fault?
PS Luckily I managed to finish cooking lunch in the (large) Sharp combi microwave, even managed to get my Yorkshire puds to rise 😀

Interesting problem. One obvious problem is the thermostat light. This is cycled directly by the thermostat, suggesting that it is stuck in the “on” position. This would lead to runaway temperature in the oven, ultimately tripping the safety device on the oven roof. It can also damage the fan oven element, which could trip the breaker.
Time to get the test meter out and find out what is happening.
Stay safe – power off at all times.

That was a pretty prompt response. Thank you.
Any pointers as to what to check (Thermostat, etc)?

Err – gave you a coulpe of pointers….. Thermostat is the obvious one. If turned back to “off” at least, the contacts should break. If the oven is getting reasonably warm and you turn the stat off, the light should be going out before the off position (cycling).
You do need a test meter and the nouse to use it correctly and safely. If you can’t, please get pro help – the repairs@ facility is at the bottom of every post and will find you a UKW engineer in your area.

Right, I’ve checked the thermostat, and it’s ‘clicking’ around the 180 deg mark (with power off or on now).
The PNC of the oven is 944 185 042 (Type 91 AHB 01 GD), and the numbers on the thermostat are 65 17052 070, 293 deg, 0511 4, 389077 003
The oven is just over 2 and a half years old.
Do you have any idea where I can get the thermostat from please?

Just a quick update, I’ve fitted the new ‘stat’ and the oven seems to be working fine.
Thanks for the advice.
