AEG Built in fridge stopped working

Hello.

I would like to ask your advice about my AEG Santo 1700i built in fridge. It is built in to our kitchen above a built in AEG freezer (separate appliances). I switched off the power (at a wall switch, connected to the plug behind the appliances) and defrosted the freezer, cleaned both and switched back on. The freezer is working, but the fridge is not doing anything (although the interior light is coming on).

As the fridge is approx 20 years old, I wondered if it made economic sense to spend money on an engineer callout (£40 – £50). I wondered if it was the thermostat or relay, but I am not good at DIY so wondered if you could advise me on the likely cause of the breakdown and if appropriate, how easy it would be for a novice to repair?

Very possibly the thermostat.

Can you find the number beginning Enr please from the rating plate inside the fridge, I’ll check if it’s still available
