We have a AEG Pro Intensiv F34502V10 – it is 2.5 years old.

It has a strange problem that I have never been able to fathom out – until today!

We load the machine up during the day and set it off just as we are going to bed. We go to bed and all is ok. Then about 10 minutes later we heard a mysterious ‘clonking’ noise coming from the kitchen. I go down to the kitchen and the noise is coming from the dishwasher. I think to myself, something must have moved and the rhythmic ‘clonking ‘ noise is one of the rotating arms hitting something. I open the lid – rotate the arms – but they are not hitting anything, they are well clear of the baskets and anything in them. I close the lid and the machine continues – the noise is gone.

So what is going on? I now know. When the machine starts off it is nice and quiet. But, when the dispenser lid opens up and flings the tablet into the machine the dispenser lid does not open up into the fully open position because it is held half open when it comes up against the underside of the top basket (which is in its highest position). So the dispenser lid is held under the top basket and as the top rotating arm comes round it hits the lid and makes the clonking noise. I have inspected the corner of the dispenser lid and can now see that it is ‘bashed’ very slightly after 2 and a half years of being smacked by the top rotating arm. The action of opening the front door of the dishwasher to investigate the noise means the lid can now fully ‘fling open’ and so when you close it again the lid is fully up and rests between the front side of the top basket and the inside of the front door and as such the rotating arm does not hit it – hence why the clonking noise goes away when I have previously gone to investigate.

Now, I have very closely inspected the position of the rotating arm in relation to the top basket and there is absolutely no way on earth the lid of the dispenser tray can fully clear the top basket as it fully flings open. There are no other objects in the machine other than those supplied with it, ie, no anti-smelly things hanging down from the basket or anything like that – just the innards of the machine as it left the factory.

I cannot see that this is anything other than a design fault – what does the team think please? Am I missing something obvious as I can’t see this would ever has passed any sort of design stage experimentation in the factory.

Yes – you are right, it is an AEG. Apologies for my silly but fundamental error! Is the site admin able to modify the thread title to the proper make?

I had a look again this morning. As I very slowly and gently opened the front door there was a loud ‘thud’ from just inside the left hand side of the machine as the lid of the dispenser cleared the underneath of the top basket where it was being held – and was then able to flip up to the fully open position.

The most likely reason is that the top basket is not located correctly in its runners. Or that the wheels have worn allowing the basket to sit lower than it should.

But the machine is only 2.5 years old and since there are just the two of us it doesn’t get that much use for anything to wear out.

Naturally I have double checked that the basket is sitting correctly on it’s runners and that it is firmly pushed back against the rear wall of the machine so that the top arm gets it’s proper water connection (it does) and in practice the action of closing the front door makes the top basket go fully back.

I am confident the machine is mechanically as it should be, but clearly something is very wrong here.

    Re: AEG ‘clonking’ noise

The dispenser flap not fully flipping up is pretty common especially if the basket does not lock properly at the back when loaded and pushed backwards to mate up with the conveyor pipe. The force of the water then pushes the basket forward on its wheels fouling the dispenser flap which could be why it takes several minutes for the clocking noise to happen. In theory without any cups and therefore without any weight in the top bsk it should start to make the clonking noise sooner that would be the case if the bsk is fully loaded. Check black conveyor seal part 1523119012 as based on the version of the pnc number 91153911400, you only stated the model number. Only other thing it could be is a worn out floppy top wash blade catching the underside of the basket or that the jet spay holes are part blocked up sending the w/blade out of balance as it hacks around giving the same effect.
