Just bought a house and have moved in to find the built-in oven has a problem. It will work perfectly for anything from 10 minutes to an hour then will switch itself off. The oven light goes off, the fan stops and the element stops working. 20 to 30 minutes later they all suddenly switch themselves back on again. We have tried adjusting the cooking duration and switch-off time on the clock control to no avail – nothing will make the oven work until it decides to switch itself back on.

When it switches itself off the digital clock and the power light (not the thermostat light) remain on.

I suspect it is not a faulty thermostat. If it was, the oven light would remain on. I suspect it is the clock control but don’t want to risk buying a new one on my hunch.

    Can anyone help?

Sounds to me like the thermal cut out has activated.
I would imagine this quality of make would have a cooling fan incoporated.
When its on, do you feel a wind blowing out of appliance above door top??
If not , there is a chance that this has failed and causing appliance to overheat thus activating said protection stat.

Correct, Greg. Cooling fan on top of oven box, thermal cut out and a safety cut off. Fan or cut out likely to be at fault.

Power off if investigating, or click the link below for an engineer in our area.

    Hi Greg and Penguin45,

Thanks for your replies. They made perfect sense when I read them, so I rushed downstairs and switched the oven on. You were correct. There is no breeze coming from above the door top. As soon as I get the time I will pull the oven out and test the cooling fan.

I am really glad I asked for your help before going out and buying a new clock control board!

    Kind Regards,
    Don.

Re: AEG Competence B1180-1-M single oven problem: HELP!

    Hi Greg,

Thanks to you, I have found the obviously burnt-out part. It looks like a short soft blue plastic pipe sticking out of the wiring harness. One end is sealed and there are four thin wires going into the open end, two blue and two white. One blue wire goes to the cooling fan, the other to the main control switch. A white wire goes to another lug on the main control switch while the other white wire goes to the clock control board close to a cut-out relay.

I cut the plastic off and found two small ceramic pieces inside with (among other numbers) ā€œ70°cā€ written on one piece. The cooling fan worked when this part was shorted out.

Please tell me what this part is called so that I can order a replacement from your shop.

    Kind regards,
    Don Loukes.

    Hi
Ask for 70 deg cooling fan thermostat.

Going to need the pnc number for this one – there are two different cooling fan assemblies, with two different thermostats. Typical :rolls:

Re: AEG Competence B1180-1-M single oven problem: HELP!

Does anybody know what the part number is for this little gizmo that’s stopped us too from using the oven for any longer than 20 minutes at a time? Looking at the only component part (that housed the 2 blue cables) there is the following text:

    D 09 70C
    8197

Is that it? Does anyone know where I can buy one to replace the burnt out one in our oven please?

Re: AEG Competence B1180-1-M single oven problem: HELP!

Hi Penguin 45 (from the deep reaches of Yorkshire),

The PNC number is as follows:

    PNC 944 181 727

Can it really be as easy as that?

We’ve connected the two blue wires together and isolated the two white in the mean time so once giving power to the oven, the cooling fan comes on all the time. The oven themostat still cuts the heat out once it’s up to temperature, so I think we’ve ‘fixed’ it safely in the short term until we’re able to buy the replacement cooling fan thermostat.. šŸ˜€

This could mean that after waiting for 4 months, we might actually get to bake the christmas cake this week….

    Thanks in advance,

    Andy, Aberdeen, Scotland

Ok, you need p/no 8996619267-61/1. Quote that number to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk and it should wing its way to you in pretty short order.

    Hi Penguin 45,

How do you know all this?????? I’ve sent an email as you’ve suggested and I look forward to hearing from them how long and how much it’ll cost.

    Internet is fantastic!!!

    Many many thanks,

    Andy

P.S. Where are you? Either your clock computer is incorrect else you’re alot further east of Scotland than Yorkshire!!!
