I have a AEG Competence B4100-1-D that has developed a main heating problem.

Had switched on oven last week and a short time later all the power went off. Checked fuse box to see that it had tripped, re-set it.

Then noticed that the oven was taking much longer to warm, set to 200 dec C. Looked at my energy meter which was showing 1200/1300W instead of the normal 2400/2500W with the oven on.

Assumed that there may had been a partial internal short on the element so got a new one. Removed the old one and checked it resistance, which was 23/24 ohms same as new one. Fitted new one in any case only to find the same problem, ie with the back element on it is only drawing about 1200/1300W and not the 2400W it should be?

Can somebody please advise what might be wrong and what I need to check/replace?

I assume that as soon as the heater switch is set to a temp that the full mains voltage is applied to the element?

Both the top elements work OK and draw the correct power when checked on the power meter.

If it isn’t heating then it’s likely to be the cooking fan control if memory serves me, which is a fairly common thing to pop on those ovens, ti’s this one…

Thanks for the reply and advice.

The fan is currently working OK. Does the part you have indicated have some sort of control over the voltage supplied to the heating element?

Is there any way to test it, as having bought an element, which would appear to not be needed, I don’t want to get another part unnecessarily?

Where will I find the part you have advised in the cooker?

The fan would work (IIRC) but it won’t heat up.

The link has photos of where it is mounted.

Have change the 8996619267611 Oven Cooling Fan Control as you suggested, but it has made no difference and the same problem remains.

The fan has never stopped working and the main back heater, which has also been replaced, has also continued to work. The problem I have is that the heating element, which is rated at 2400W (internal resistance 23/24 ohms) is only drawing about 1200W when on and not the full 2400W and as such is taking twice as long to warm the oven. Clearly something is amiss.

Can somebody please advise what the problem might be and or what areas I need to look into?
