AEG Competence B8340-1 fault ‘F7’

My AEG Competence B8340-1 cooker is completely dead (3 yrs old) apart from the fault code ‘F7’. I gather that this code indicates that the oven is connected to the mains with the wrong polarity! If this is right, then it has taken three years for the oven to discover the fact. On the other hand, the oven is NOT wrongly connected. So the circuit board is suspected. I’ve learnt that a replacement board will cost nearly 320 quid – unbelievable! Is there anyone who can repair the board?

This seems like another chapter of the German electronics unreliability story – first their cars take a reliability dive because of the electronics and now white goods!

Any comments or advice gratefully received.

Incidentally, I wonder about the ruggedness of the electronics, bearing in mind that a pyrolytic oven gets very hot indeed. I have already suffered lamp failures (actually the quartz iodine lamp exploded) during the pyro cleaning cycle. I found that the ‘oven lamp’ spec is for a lower temperature than the temp used in pyro cleaning. Is the pyro concept incompatible with reliability?

Too late, now, I’m afraid. Circuit board replaced at a cost of 320 quid and all now well with the oven.

Is there no alternative to Distriparts who, surely, should not be charging such a high price for a couple of small, coupled boards and a display panel?

I bet they don’t pay such high prices for AEG parts in Germany.

Incidentally, if anyone has problems with an AEG induction hob blowing up should check that they have had an update on one of the boards. I learned today that my experience with my hob (three actually, two having blown up) led to a service replacement being called for.

It helps to pass these things on as you don’t get much out of Electrolux!

Spares pricing is an ongoing contentious issue in this industry and is among the reasons that this site exists.
