ParticipantI have an AEG Favorit 40650 from about 2005 that has been fine all this time. Just now it seems not to be heating properly – the washing isn’t great and if you open the door when drying, instead of getting a sauna, the contents are barely warm to the touch, and the drying is now rubbish as you can expect. It seems to go through the wash cycle faster, presumably because it’s not spending time waiting to get warm. It’s a bit odd as it gets a little warm, say 25C, not hot or stone cold, so to my limited knowledge of these things it may be a control rather than heating problem. Please advise what I should be checking, many thanks, John

I would check the heater first. you can get small temp rises from the water being pumped around.
if the heater has gone its the easiest to diagnose. disconnect and check it with a multimeterDave

Thanks – is this easy to find? I’m pretty handy but not too familiar with appliances. Also would it not give an error of some sort if it was trying to heat but didn’t get to temp?

not all appliances fault out on no heat
heater is as pictured. positioned underneath. hose comes out of main pump one branch goes to the heater.
disconnect wires, measure with multimeter on ohms range, should be around 25 ohms

Thanks Dave. The mere suggestion I gut it seems to have woken it up again. It was on 65C cycle today and was most definitely hot. Fingers crossed it stays that way!

Well your post was awhile ago but I have to say that I had the same problem on an Aeg d/washer about the same age as yours though a different model. Traced it down to a pcb relay which another one was duly robbed off a defunct board and resoldered in its place- exact same rated relay not just any old one, and has worked for 3 weeks so far so good curing the offending machine. So if it all goes bad again look to that cure. If you are lucky, and I wasn`t maybe the relay soldering is bad, it`ll look bad so it`ll be obvious.
