ParticipantAnybody got any tips as to how to remove the side panel on AEG dishwashers without breaking the white plastic lug? It’s the small plastic plug about 4 inches from the top on the front on both sides. (Sorry I don’t have a model number but they all seem to be the same)

Have you noticed, the customer is always watching over you when you break them????? I don’t know how to get the b****y things off either. I can effect many technical repairs, but those plastic clip things have me beat!

Not too certain about this but remember back about seven years ago looking at something like that. Aren’t they the type of plastic rivet which are in two parts? If so, the centre will push out (and probably get lost, so you need some spares) and you can then remove the outer which is like a rawl plug and expands as you push the central “pin” into it.

Not as simple as that Mike 🙁 , it’s a solid plastic plug with a barb that appears to be forced in with no way of removing it without snapping it.

Sounds like you need to order in a supply of spare ones if you get this often. Then warn the customer that it’ll cost them an extra £5(?) for replacement lugs before you take off the panels!
Alternatively find a good hardware shop and find an alternative fixing. Or Maplin (electronics) for plastic rivets.

Same problem when you need to remove the decor door on Bosch/Neff integrated dishwashers. A small white plastic plug hides the attaching screw and the plug cannot be removed without damaging it!

Mike. This is the earlier type aeg d/w. Whats more under the wrktop there is a row of spare ones you snap off when needed. those were the days. Bob is talking about the newer aeg and yes, they do break and are certainly not something you can buy in a hardware store. I glue em back as they dont really serve much purpose anyway.

I’m glad it’s not only me… I hate being beaten by a machine!
