Hi all. The fridge is an AEG “Oko Santo”. I can’t find a model number. That appears to be it.

Found today that the food was not cold. Compressor very hot to touch (too hot to keep hand pressed against). I’ve metered the compressor windings and they come out at 31, 32, 63 (across both) ohms and are not apparently shorting to earth (I only have a cheap meter these days tho, no proper insulation tester).

The compressor will run for about 10 minutes, and the coil gets hot on the right hand side. Fridge temp drops only about 2 degrees C. Then the compressor appears to stop pumping refrigerant and just sits there humming and warming itself while the coil cools down again, but is still vibrating to the touch.

Is this likely to be a failed compressor (in which case, fridge is basically junk 🙁 I suppose) or is there anything else that it might be or that I can test?

Any help very gratefully appreciated. I’m rather impoverished ATM and this is the last thing I need to happen to be honest.

Yes I’m afraid, sounds very like it as that’s classic symptoms of a failed compressor. Sorry.

Thanks for your answer, even though it’s not very positive news 🙁
