Hi –can anybody help with this problem? I have an AEG Halogen Ceramic Hob – model no. AEG 1721 or possibly AEG 1774 (brochure is a bit vague) and fitted back in 1992 so maybe now obsolete? It was supplied via MFI as part of a fitted kitchen and has a black glass surface with white fleck pattern and white controls

It’s been very good until two recent faults and I am looking to see if I can trace spares. One of the halogen hoblamps has gone – looks about a 6” length as well as the dual zone switch which controls the large outer ring of one of the normal hobs (this model has a two halogens plus two normal hobs)

I have basic electrical knowledge so cannot see any major problem in fitting these parts but need to know where to go or spares, or does anybody know if this model is known by another name?

    Re: AEG hob spares needed!

In order to correctly id this, we would need the correct Enr number which will be on a label on the bottom surface of the hob. If you have an electric oven underneath, it will probably be easier to remove that and then you should be able to look up and read the label.
Warning, those parts will be expensive!

Thx – yes the oven is underneath so will need to be pulled out to check the ENR. I’ll post back as and when this can be done by self or with outside help

    Hi again

Good news – I dug up the original handbook with relevant serial numbers etc.

Its an AEG glass ceramic built in hob model 615K.
    ENR 611 524 986
    6.3kw
    type G mE 0004

    F. Nr 07 01

The halogen hoblamp that needs replacing is for the large 180mm halogen cooking zone (1800 watts) The smaller halogen hob is OK (145mm -1200W)

The other replacement part needed is the control knob for the double circuit zone on the normal (non-halogen) hob. This switches the outer heating ring on the 120/210 mm dia. zone 750/2100 W

Any idea of best place to obtain these spares? Also price guide (yeah – guess they’re not cheap)
Thanks for your help so far!

I can get them David, and you’re right, they aren’t cheap.

    1800W Halogen plate – £101.91 plus VAT
    Knob – £5.33 plus VAT
    Postage – £4.50inc VAT.

Please email me at spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk if you’d like them and I’ll arrange for you.

    Dave.

    Phew! Megabucks for the halogen!

There are two elements inside the hob and one is not working but the other is still OK.

Is it not possible to replace the individual elements or is it the case of having to have the whole unit??? Sounds like same case scenario with some car manufacters who force motorists into having to replace a whole component which incorporates the tiny part that has packed up!!

“Spark plug Sir? Sorry – you need a new engine block………..”

Thanks for you ongoing advice and look forward to your reply

    The other David!

Complete Halogen unit only I’m afraid 🙁

It’s been a few years now since any manufacturer supplied the tubes on there own, even then they were OTT with the prices.

There is an alaternative that I may be able to supply from Merloni as the Creda/Hotpoint one’s are relatively cheap by comparison, pretty much all of the hotplate units are made in the same place.

A photo with dimesions and showing the connections please and I’ll dig around a bit 😉

    Dave.
