Hi,
I have replaced the magnetron, diode and wave guide cover on an AEG combination oven/microwave. The original fault was that the unit (suddenly) became very noisy on microwaving and wasn’t heating effectively. After carefully discharging the capacitor, I tested the common components. the microwave power supply, diode and magnetron all tested normal electrically. The magnetron antenna cover was discoloured as was the waveguide cover so I changed both. As I had a new one I also replaced the diode.
The microwave now appears to function correctly but I’ve noticed that the waveguide cover gets very hot – for example when I heat a mug of water for a minute it feels as hot as the cup I’m heating – and I’m wondering if I’ve missed an underlying problem.
Can anyone tell me if it’s normal for the waveguide cover to get quite hot? I’m wondering if a faulty stirrer motor or something else could cause that. Is there a self-diagnosis hidden in the microwave software that might help me?
I’ve never felt to see if the waveguide cover is hot before this repair so perhaps that’s normal…
Many thanks in advance for any advice.
