ParticipantAEG L14800 washer drier. PNC 91460151901. Serial no:- 091000150.
Machine stops in cycle with display dead. Turn off and on again, display back up and seems OK. As a program is being set, some positions on the selector switch make the machine go dead (no display, as if it was switched off). So I fitted a new 24 position selector unit and all seemed well.
Had a call tonight to say the same problem has occurred. I have had the main PCB out to check for damage, none found. Cleaned connections and refitted. But obviously that didn’t work.I have checked the machine for earth faults (all OK) and all looms look perfect; filter clear and machine is working fine on fill, wash, heat, drain and spin. Drier fires up OK as well. I am starting to think PCB main board; but these are usually really reliable, so I am reluctant to order one yet.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Steve.

Connection between display and main board maybe?

Thanks for the reply Martin.
Went today and checked the machine over. Took control panel of and inspected PCB; took the casing off and checked all components for continuity and earth faults. All OK. All connections sound and clean / tight. Set the selector to a program and control panel lights up. Then turn the selector off then set to another program. Dead…nothing. Turn the power off or unplug and plug in again; program comes up as normal. Will start a cycle and cut out randomly and with no pattern.
Very strange to spooky… 😕
I cannot think of anything else but the main PCB as the selector switch is new. I am always wary of blaming the PCB as the Zanussi based machines of this era seemed pretty good in the PCB department.
Any ideas or things that I have missed?
Steve.

Well Steve I guess it may be a dodgy cap on the PCB not always opening the power relay or some such technical nonsense I know little about. 🙁

More likely to be a dodgy switch mode PSU chip on the main PCB.
