ParticipantHi
The bearings have gone on this machine – it’s 12 years old. I thought it might be a removable spider, but it’s not. THe drum surround looks like it has to be split. Does anyone know if this is even possible to repair; there are no screws and it looks as though the drum is ‘welded’? Thanks

Moderatorthe ones i looked at seem to be able to be done but to be certain i need the Pnc number off the label inside the door

ParticipantThanks for getting back so quickly.
Yes should have given you that:
91452401501 & ser. no 72000680As mentioned the plastic drum surround looks welded AND it has to come out through the top I think!

ParticipantThanks Dave
Okay now I have to make a decision on a machine that’s already 12 years old and rather inefficent. I think there maybe other things that are required. E.g. The dampeners are not held by bolts but what looks like plastic drive ‘bolts’. Any thoughts you have on those two issues would be appreciated.

Moderatordampers wear like anything else does and it depends on how worn they are. In other words if you did not change how long are they likely to last
you say machine is inefficient but i would rather have inefficient reliabilty to efficient unreliability. It just seems with a drive to make them more efficient they have also cut corners on engineering quality

ParticipantThanks. Just to end – have you heard of these plastic bolts for the dampers or am I mistaken?

Moderatorthey are not bolts just plastic pins
they are used a lot and we dont get much problems with them. they are not threaded and have a barb to hold them inhttps://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/1327804017-plastic-suspension-pin

ParticipantHi Dave
Okay so I managed to get a new tub with new gasket and with the bearings fitted for 165.00. The one you recommended didn’t fit my model. Everything was marked when I dismantled so the refit went well.
But. I have a problem with tub balance. The machine washes fine, but the spin is when I get a lot of vibration at around 800-1000. When the machine reachs 1200 it ‘levels’ out and the spin is fine and quiet. What could be happening here? Everything is fitted as it came off. Thanks

Moderatorevery piece of machanical apparatus has its vibration point. as long as its just a vibration and not accompanied by a horrible noise it should be ok. just depends how severe it is
was this a new tub or a reconditioned one ?Dave

ParticipantThis was a brand new tub, bolted with new gasket . Yeah it’s quite bad at the low spin almost a clatter. If I lean on it it gets better, but it’s not good. As the spin increases it gets much better. I fitted the existing dampeners because they were okay with the original tub, could they be responsible?
thanks

Moderatoras far as i can see AEG either sell the sealed tub or components to fix.
dont think you can get a complete tub of the non sealed version.
That makes me think that possibly this unit is a recon but may have a faulty spider that can corrode over yearswhere did it come from ?
if you spin the drum does the inner drum look like it runs true or does the gap by the door rubber get smaller and larger ?Dave

ParticipantAEG are now doing a two part tub for this machine that has to be bolted with a gasket as opposed to the old welded version. I managed to use the existing stainless interior tub with it’s spider which was in good condition. The plastic tub was brand new and fitted a treat. But somewhere there is a balance problem.
