ParticipantSome advice if possible. Took posession of this washing machine last Monday. Set it up and read the instruction booklet and noticed a problem.
Basically it says on page 7 of the instruction manual. “On Off button”. Press this button to activate or deactivate the appliance. A tune sounds when the appliance is activated” No tune.A very faint “cheep”. This “cheep” operates whatever buttons are pressed and at the end there is no tune either. So I thought maybe the tune had been deactivated so followed the instructions to reactive. Still no tune. Emailed Customer Care who said perhaps it had been deactivated and to follow the instructions to reactivate! I have tried every time I have used the machine (which seems to be washing okay – but then again my clothes never get very dirty to tell!).Apart from not getting what I paid for I am wondering whether this annoyance could be a sign of a deeper fault.

Thanks for that.No buzzer – all I can hear is the faintest “click” or “cheep”(The sound which a smoke alarm makes as the battery runs flat). It is definately a series 6 from the pictures and I have tried pressing the two buttons for 5 seconds – hear the click but there remains no acoustic signal other than that click or cheep when buttons are pressed. DEfinately no tune or anything else at the start or end. Tried pressing the buttons again which should “deactivate” it but still get the same cheep.Certainly would not be able to hear the sound at all in the average kitchen.

Well the service manual states :-
Buzzer
This comprises a multi-tone buzzer and sounds in the following cases:
– When the machine is turned on and off it emits two different tunes.
– When a button is pressed it emits a short “Click”.
– When the cycle ends this is indicated by a special sequence of “three long beeps” repeated at intervals
of 15” for a total of 2 minutes.
– In the event of a malfunction in the machine this is indicated by a special sequence of “three short
beeps” repeated 3 times at intervals of 15” for a total of 5 minutes.May 28, 2013 at 8:26 pm #395615mrsmiggins

Many thanks – don’t get any of that unless the “cheeps” can be be called “clicks”. No tunes at start or end and no long beeps. Oh dear!

Take that to being a blessing in disguise. After all, it is just a washing machine you bought, not a ghetto blaster! 😀

LOL – I am suspicious about why it doesn’t work and what else might not work and I don’t want to find out later that my warranty is not valid because I had ignored the problem. Got an engineer coming out Friday to tell me it doesn’t work. What he will do then is anybody’s guess.

Hi
Most customers ask me how to disable the tones as they can be annoying.

Just to keep everyone up to date. The engineer came today and he couldn’t understand why it didn’t make any noise at all. He tried following the instructions to activate and deactivate with no success. He then decided that the only thing was to keep pressing all the knobs and programs to try and trigger some response. This did work after about 10 minutes and I got the relevant noises.(We think – but no tune). The poblem then was that they were not responsive to being switched off. He was totally bemused over the whole thing. In the end we agreed that he would now leave the noises on and he would email to try and find out more information from AEG/Electrolux and get back to me. He has assurred me that the washing cycles won’t be affected.

As I said before……..”a blessing in disguise!” Besides you won’t need the ” tunes and cheeps” to tell you the machine has completed it’s wash cycle. It makes enough racket doing that so once silence prevails that is the signal that the programme has finished! 😀 :clown:

Well since the very nice service engineer came and pressed all the knobs and buttons randomly to force a noise the washing programmes have been behaving very oddly. On the eco (60)- the washing hardly got hot at all – suspect washed at 40 and not 60. Now doing a jeans wash(40) the temperature same as before but it began rinsing after an hours wash and it has rinsed and rinsed and rinsed………

Just an update. Used the machine since last post but now started to use the “delay start” button to set it to come on early in the morning. Used this button successfully until last week when it wouldn’t set on one of the programmes. Tonight I tried to set the delay again for the “jeans” programme – it would set but only for up to 8 hours when the booklet says that it should set for 20 hours. I switced off and tried the other programmes which will let me set for up to 20 hours!
Surely all these faults indicate that there is something wrong with the electronics of the machine?
Two months into ownership of a brand new machine and two call outs.

I apologise in advance for being abrupt, bordering perhaps on rude but, why on Earth would anyone do that…

To save 1p, if that? Is it really worth the risk?
Sorry, I just don’t understand why people do this.

That is indeed terrible news as, like you, I would like my dirty jeans to sit and fester for well over 8 hours in the drum not knowing what fate awaits them and how many more hours it will be before the washing process begins. 8 hours is just not enough for the sweat, blood, human extrusions, oil, grease and downright filth to sit and ponder….it ain’t right!

Just to be serious for a moment….. The answer to that is NO! You will soon know when there is a fault as it simply will not work. AND the sophisticated electronics will furnish an error code to say what went wrong anyway, so you’re fully covered.
Happy washdays! 😀
