Hi All. I was recommended to come here from the ultimatehandyman forum website after having some issues with my new AEG washer dryer. The washing function appears to be working, albeit incredibly noisily, but the dryer doesn’t get hot, so whilst not completely soaking they aren’t dry enough when it finishes. Its a brand new machine and has only been used for a couple of washes. I should admit at this stage that rather stupidly the instructions (which i did originally remove) were left inside the machine on the first time it was used but after cleaning the filter a few times it seems to have done the trick.
When on the drying function it spins and you can hear the water gurgling down the waste but it doesn’t get hot. Im told this may be a blocked condenser? if so is this a DIY fix or one for the technician? its currently sat on two big lumps of wood which is a definite no no from the instruction manual so im not sure if this will void any warranty if i was to get a technician out?

Oh dear oh dear! Sounds like you have done everything wrong here from not reading the user instructions first then sticking it on two lumps of wood before turning it on and finding it both noisy and not drying. :rolls:

I wouldn’t mind betting you also failed to remove the transit packing?

It’s under manufacturers warranty so if you mess with it the guarantee is void anyway, but that is your only option.

well thank you Martin, you have been a great help with your positive comments!
    1) i did read the user instructions. I had originally removed them, then i thought they were lost so went online but didn’t realise that they had been put back inside the machine. Stupid i know but these things happen
    2) it says you shouldn’t prop it on pieces of wood yet from looking online this appears to be a fairly accepted practice. The lumps of wood are 2x4s, screwed into the floor underneath and are required to level the machine due to the floor sloping particularly badly in this area (right at the threshold between what used to be two separate rooms). I can accept why the manufacturers would say you shouldnt do this and why it might add to the noise but surely this wouldnt be a cause for the machine not to get hot or dry?
    3) transit packaging? if you mean transit bolts then yes it looks like the kitchen fitter (not me i should add) did remove these but has failed to insert he plastic grommits in the spaces that were left. Again, from looking online it sounds like this should be done as best practice but shouldn’t prevent the machine from working.

Anyone else with something constructive to say?

4×2 as a base is fine, not an issue. The transit bolts were removed, excellent. It doesn’t dry so best now call in the service agents and get it sorted under guarantee. 😀

So, the technician came out on Friday and supposedly fixed the problem. He’s written ‘rest PCB and tested’ and apparently he mentioned that he’d rest one of the thermostats as they’re very sensitive. Today I’ve tried using it and no joy again. I’ve removed the lid to check if there’s anything obvious I could have a go at rather than waiting for a technician to come out again. There’s a red button on one of what I’m guessing are the thermostats but it doesn’t feel like it can be pressed in much. Is there a knack to doing it or do you have to be forceful? There’s a few mm of play but it definitely can’t be pushed all the way in. Or am I looking at something completely different? Any advice appreciated as I’m now left with a load of wet clothes!

The reset on that stat only needs a light push to reset it. The button is normally very loose anyway. If it HAD tripped you would hear a distinctive ‘click’ as you push the button so, from what you say, it hasn’t tripped. Call the guy back out and DO NOT MESS WITH THE MACHINE is my continued advice.
