ParticipantHi All,
I have a 3.5 year old AEG L61271WDBI Washer Dryer which wasn’t cheap, so i’d have liked it to have lasted a little longer. The other day, during a drying cycle, i noticed that it had turned itself off (no LCD, buttons unresponsive and no movement from the drum). I tried turning it back on, but nothing happened. I’ve also tried replacing fuses, testing the plug socket and leaving the machine unplugged for a length of time, but nothing has fixed the problem.
Having taken a look inside, the electrical circuit doesn’t seem too complicated. There appears to be a voltage regulator with spurs off to 3 pumps, the PCB and what i think is a smaller PCB for the dryer. I assume there is also a lead off, from the main PCB, to the door release, too. I’ve just ordered a multimeter (i’m going to have to learn how to use it) which i’m going to check the voltage regulator with. If that’s ok, i’d assume the PCB is broken and will likely replace it.
Does this seem like a reasonable plan of action, or am I oversimplifying things? Are there other tests that i could run, to determine if anything else is broken?
The new PCB is listed twice on the AEG site, at different prices, with different part numbers, which is confusing:

Thanks,

Mains filter would be where to start I’d think.
AEG parts, like many others, you have multiple options on depending on the PNC number so, get that and confirm that the any parts you order up are for that specific production or it will invariably be wrong.
The boards would not be the first thing I’d go to.

Thanks.
I’ll hold off until i’m able to test the mains filter. I’d much rather not have to spend money on a PCB!

I have managed to test the mains filter and it shows 240v (so much for a £16 fix). I’ve also managed to test a few spots on the main PCB, which are showing ~50v, one of which looks as though it might be some sort of diagnostic port. If the main PCB is receiving power, but not showing any lights, would it be safe to assume it is broken?
Something that confuses me, a little, is the PCB for the dryer side of the machine. If this were to break, would it stop power from reaching the main PCB? And, i guess, by replacing the main PCB, there’s no guarantee that the dryer PCB wasn’t taken with it?
Thanks,

Check the dryer element for an earth fault as this will give symptoms of a dead machine on this appliance.
