ParticipantI have looked at the above machine product code 914531225/02.
Customer says the machine sometimes didn’t turn on and the display remains blank. If she leaves the machine for a hour or so it might turn on but not awasys, now it won’t turn on even after waiting. The last time it turned on she couldn’t then turn it off but it eventually times out after about 10 minutes and turns itself off but has refused to turn on since.
There are no insulation faults. I have 240v going into the main PCB.
There are no obvious dry solder joints or visible damage to any of the components on either the main PCB or front “interface” PCB. I have squeezed the connectors to try and improve the connections but am dubious lifting the pins due to the risk of damaging them.
You can feel pressing the button on the fascia panel is actuating the button on the PCB and I have continuity across the on/off button when pressed.I suspect one of the PCB’s to be at fault but wondered if anyone could shd a bit more light on this.
Thanks.

it may be activating the button but the switches go faulty and come unsoldered from the board. worth a check before you scrap a board

Thanks Dave,
I took a close look at the solder joints by the switch and couldn’t see anything obvious. I know they can break away with use (like the Hotpoint fascia boards) and often you can see where they lift away from the PCB but I was apprehensive try to re-solder as the joints are so small and if they weren’t faulty in the first place didn’t want to risk buggering the board if it wasn’t that.
If it’s not the solder joint for the switch do you think it more likely to be the interface board or the main PCB?November 29, 2017 at 8:52 am #452016electrofix

all you have to do is a continuity test with a multi meter on the switch

I’ve done a continuity test and the switch tested OK when pressed but if there is a break where it’s soldered to the PCB a continuity test may not prove the integrity of the joint.
I also had continuity on the track behind the switch but with the PCB being manipulated outside of the casing it’s possible the solder joint could be touching.November 29, 2017 at 10:05 am #452018electrofix

could send you tech info but its not a lot of use if you cant turn it on
what I would do now is try to eliminate everything else
we know all the board should need to turn on is mains and the front control panel so unplug all the usual suspects motor heaters etc and anything else and see if it makes any difference
