ParticipantHi, I have an AEG Lavamat 610 E-Nr 605.637.203 that is about 15 years old. It has been very reliable and has required little maintenace over the years. However, when my wife stopped the machine to add something, upon restart there was a ‘bang from around the door area’. The ‘on’ light went off and has stayed off, and the fuse is ok. What I have found on the PCB above the timer, are two blown tracks. I have thought about repairing these by bridging the tracks, but am concerned that I have not got to the root cause. I seem to have two choices, either to replace the PCB if it can be purchased separately (wouldn’t if it comes with the timer! £££), or change the machine. I would hesitate to go for anothert AEG as I’m not convinced Electrolux will have maintained the AEG’s quality, but am interested in recommendations on this site for ISE and Bosch. The latter has a caveat given one cannot guarantee purchasing a German made unit, the Spanish built allegedly being inferior. In line with online advice it needs to be a machine I can maintain myself with access to reasonably priced spares. I would appredciate your advice please.

Buy a Miele prestiege plus.
You wont need another machine for another 20 years. enameled case so no rust, made in germany and quality reputation.
Some of the more pricey miele machines are offerering a 10 year gaurantee at the moment !!!

Thanks, I appreciate your advice. Miele do seem to have a good reputation, the only reservation I might have is other advice that suggests you can only repair through an OEM agent and not independents or DIY. I guess one has to balance that against the quality that might mean I don’t need to use their services. I will look at Miele anyway – cheers.

Just look on here – hardly anyone posting question on Miele washing machines. So obviously more reliable than the rest.
They also have stainless steel tubs and cast iron weights, not lumps of concrete. There are vids on youtube of people restoring 30 year old miele machines with nothing more needed than a set of bearings.
You pays your money and make your choice.
I know ISE are promoted heavily on here, but ive yet to see one in this area of the country. I know they are well made. But i know id rather bet on Miele being about in 20 years .

Or the other stance is sales are low in comparison. 😉
Or people know they have a 5 / 10 year warranty so no need to go looking for advice.

Or possibly the fact that Miele have a tiny market share compared cheaper brands?
In my opinion Miele make good machines and if you look after them (which the OP clearly has with their AEG) by doing maintenance washes, not ignoring funny noises, etc. then they are definitely a good investment. However, they can and still do go wrong. When they do it will cost an arm and a leg more than fixing a Bosch or ISE, and this is almost entirely down to the way Miele restricts info and spares to the indies.

Yeah they will cost both arms & both legs if you need to pay for spares. Like £80 for a door gasket, £400 for a motor or £300 for a p.c.b.
