ParticipantGoing to size this one up tomorrow. Sounds like bearings, possibly also shaft. Had a look at the exploded on mediator, spider’s obsolete 😯 ? but between it and the bearing seal is a small round part described as “barrel ring” ❓ OPN = 1100991106 Only thing I can imagine it being is the brass ring on which the bearing seal runs. Not come across this before.
Ah, just googled and found a picture on the french e-bay site. Definitely is the brass ring. Supplied together with a packet of loctite 242. Is it threaded on? I presume I’ll need a blowlamp? Anybody know?

It’s on the cargo boat to the Scillies. They reckon’ they don’t want to have to get a new one as the room it’s in doesn’t have a big enough door.
I’m quite looking forward to changing a barrel ring, anyway. Make a nice change from sending it to landfill.

I’ve never changed one before…always had a complete spider, but apparently the way to remove the old one is to attack it with a centre punch all around it which distorts it slightly and breaks the adhesive. 😉

The only washer I’ve repaired on a boat was on a fishing trawler called the “Genesis”. Some of you may have seen said boat on TV in the “Trawlermen” series.

Went to have a look this morning. Sadly it feels like I will only need the bearings, not worn enough to have damaged the ring. Too many mechanics on board must have noticed the noise. Also won’t get a free trip to the isles as they’ll be in dry dock for the next couple of weeks 😥 .
Barrel ring is in stock at Lux for £10.45 if anyone ever reads this in search of one.
Thanks for the help, guys.
