    Hi

My mum has an AEG Lavamat 74620 which is making a clicking noise on the rinse cycle. There is no error shown on the display.

I have identified the fault as the water distributor (using these forums).

I have had a look at the distributor and the cogs under the black cover are the source of the clicking, I think it’s the orange one that’s causing the problems.

I removed the other 2 cogs and allowed a cycle to continue, the cogless spindles rotated and the cycle completed.

Is it safe to leave these cogs off and continue to use the machine. I believe all that the distributor is doing is selecting the area of the drawer to pass the water through. She is reluctant to spend any money on it due to it’s age (and ideally it needs a new door seal – cost of replacing both puts her well on the way to an ISE machine 😀 )

Obviously this will mean she can’t use the drawer but this is infrequent anyway (I suppose she could add softner at the right time of the wash if she wanted)

    Many thanks

I don’t think that will work as I think the distributor tells the electronics when it is in the right position for the particular bit of the programme. You might find it gets so far through the wash and sits waiting for the distributor to move. If the device is still turning the switch part that produces these feedback signals it should be OK though.

    Thanks

I’ll leave them off and ask her to try a full cycle

I don’t mind if I damage the machine, it was going to be replaced anyway, I just don’t want to create a dangerous situation or flood the place.

    Update for anyone interested.

    It didn’t work

Seems to go through the motions, but the clothes are still soapy at the end.
