AEG OKO 4040

Hi, got up this morning to find dishwasher making buzzing sound and bottom tray full of water.

I attmpted to restart at start of cycle and it fills (more !), but doesn’t drain.

Has the drain pump failed or something else ?

It sounds like it although that wouldn’t explain the flooded base unless the pump is leaking. Other possibles are there is a leak from somewhere else and this has damaged the pump. The buzzing noise is the pump by the sound of it as the flood protection has activated.

I would switch off and leave this one to an engineer to be honest, check Repairs@ for one 🙂

Dave, thanks for the rapid reply.

In fact by ‘tray full of water’ I meant water inside the actual machine where it would be normally, not in the tray underneath.

The buzzing sound sounded like a transformer humming loudly – like maybe it would if the pump had seized.

Does that sound like a dead drain pump ?

When I restarted the machine it filled more slightly, but then did not move on through the cycle. The circ pump did not fire up at all.

If its most likely the drain pump, is that an easy replace ? I assume the machine has to go on its side to get to this.

It could be either the drain pump or the main circulation pump to be honest now you’ve enlightened me 😉

Engineer time in all honesty to make the correct diagnosis.

Its probably too late now but it sounds like a problem I had. Luckily a friend told me a trick to try. Simply move the machine into free space and tilt it from front to back about 45 degrees. This was all it took to clear the error code and solve the problem. It also rectified a noisy pump which must be related. I don’t know why the manuals don’t give this technique because it does say you should be able to clear the siphon but doesn’t say how.

Thank you for your input to this dead thread Rosco.

Future readers please note that the appliance should be unplugged before any action is taken. The procedure described will drain a leak into the undertray by pouring the water onto the floor. The leak must then be traced and repaired. It does not solve a “no drain” problem.
