    Hello,

The drain pump on my dishwasher has stopped working so I called out Service Force (who seem to have taken over from AEG’s own customer service) to take a look but they say they can’t repair it. I’m kicking myself that I didn’t post on here first, but too late now. To cut a long story short, there are three parts which they say need replacing but one of them – the “circulation motor” – is apparently discontinued. (I don’t think this part has failed yet but is showing signs of water damage.)

    I have two questions:

    1. Does the advice from Service Force seem likely to be true ? I assume that they wouldn’t pass up the chance to carry out a fairly high-ticket repair, but I feel I should check.

    2. If the AEG is a write-off, what would you suggest as a replacement ? I see that dishwashers can cost over £ 1,000 these days, which is an eye-watering amount. I think the AEG only cost us about £ 400, although that was in 1999. Many people seem surprised that our dishwasher actually produces clean and dry dishes, so it seems there are quite a few useless ones around. If it takes £ 1,000 to get a good one in 2011, then I guess I’ll dry my eyes and hand over the hard-earned but I’d welcome your advice.

    Thanks very much in advance.

I THOUGHT YOU COULD GET A REPLACEMENT DISTRUBTION PUMP BUT YOU HAD TO CHANGE HOSES AS THE MOTOR SUPPLIED WAS DIFFERENT.I USED TO HAVE THE 5040 AND IT WAS A GREAT DISHWASHER PERSONALLY I WOULD STICK A DRAIN PUMP IN IT AND SEE HOW IT GOES

The drain pump should be a simple diy fix as likely a three screw or bayonet mounted askoll pump
should be available from the shop here or google/ebay is your friend…

Many thanks for both replies. I installed a drain pump and it’s working again. Just had to cut off the power connector in the dishwasher and crimp on the spades supplied with the pump. No more washing dishes by hand – yippee !

I did see that the motor has a crust of limescale on the outside so that must be why the service chap said it needed replacing (but also said the part was discontinued), but the new pump has solved the immediate problem and prolonged the life of the dishwasher, so I’m well pleased.

    Thanks again
