So my faithful AEG 6950 has stopped working after 23 years of loyal service. If I have to replace it then obviously I will, but I would like to be sure that there isn’t a quick fix before I take that decision.
It no longer pumps out. When I select ‘Pump Out’ the pump activates and the impeller blades go round, but it does not pump the water out. The drain pump filter is unobstructed.
It also won’t spin. When I select ‘Spin’ the pump activates but the drum does not rotate. I have tried this with the drum full and with the drum empty and the result is the same.
There does not appear to be an issue with the drum. It rotates just fine during the washing cycle and I did manage to get it to spin yesterday (empty).
The LEDs on the display stopped working many moons ago, but it seems to go through the programme cycle fine, until we get to the point where it should be pumping out and spinning.
Have I got to the end of the line or could this be a simple fault?
    Any advice greatly appreciated.

The black rubber sump hose could well be blocked especially the section of pipe that leads to the pressure switch.

The motor needs attention as the brushes will almost certainly need replacing.

And finally, and if the pump is OK as you suggest, then the drain hose and where it terminates need inspecting too.

Thank you, Martin, that’s very helpful.
