    Dear all,

The gasket between the drum and the machine body (where the door closes) becomes filled with a slimy mould. In spite of cleaning and sterilising the flexible rubber (?) gasket the mould keeps returning.

I’d appreciate input on the causes and potential solutions to this problem.

    Regards — Phil

Do you only use liquid detergents and low temperature washes. This would be the number one cause.

Try using powders and higher wash temperatures for your whites only washes, this will help. But once the door rubber has become discoulored due to mould it is almost impossible to get it looking clean again.

If it looks really bad then the only remedy is to change the door rubber I’m affraid.

Remember power off at all times and if your not too sure how to replace it, then it might be better to contact repairs@ for an expert engineer.

    Hi Phil,

Do a maintenance wash and it may well help keep it at bay, but once the little bugs get a grip they can be really hard to get rid of.

To do this simple use a full dose of bleach containing detergent, I’d recommend Ariel powder or tablets, and bung it on the hottest wash you can without a pre-wash with the machine empty of clothing.

Thanks for your advise — really appreciated. I’ll give the maintenance wash method a shot, before replacing the gasket.

    Best regards — Phil
