ParticipantHi, have been getting the E34 error code on my washer, model number 914002407 (00). When any program is selected, the start button lights up in the usual way and I press start. Then it drains for a few seconds before going to pause. It requires switching off before it will respond to anything.
Here’s what I’ve done so far…
Blown down the tubes leading to the pressure switches. There was no resistance or gurgling so they seem to be clear.
Removed and inspected the heating element. Resistance is around 30 ohms (240×240/30 = 1920 watts) so that seems about right. No continuity between main contacts and earth, or between main contacts and outer casing (insulation).
Tried replacing the ‘analogic pressure switch’ but this made no difference.
I cannot clear the error code, but this might be because I am not using the correct sequence of button presses (tried prewash/soak buttons together and various combinations of dial positions!). It is always there when I press the above two buttons, turn 1 click clockwise, wait a second or two, release buttons then turn dial to ‘short spin’.
I have been able to get it start a wash cycle, but am not sure what sequence of button presses etc has allowed this. It seems to be when I enter the diagnostics mode, then turn the dial to various positions (it takes in water etc) then switch off again. It then seems to go straight to fill when I start a wash cycle rather than trying to drain and then pausing. I have also been able to get it to begin a short spin and drain. I haven’t been able to spot a pattern to this.
I suppose it could be the control board?
Any ideas appreciated!!

Hi Ewan, I’ve been getting similar errors (see other posts on here). I took my main circuit board out the other day and the board was part burnt out, one resister all black. I cleaned up and put back in, still no good.
Someone on ebay is offering to refurb them, the pic they have of an old board is virtually identical to mine, blown in just the same place! They are towards £50 to fix them, the only thing I don’t know is whether the board has burnt out because of another reason ..
Take a look at yours, on rhs just under top cover, take a pic to remember where leads go and then take out of plastic case. Power off first of course!!
Let me know how you get on.

Hi Peter,
Just removed board and bingo – burnt out. Not sure why I was reluctant to pull it out; I guess I was hoping for simpler fix!
Anyway, not obvious what has burnt out on mine. There are black smoke trails around a few components that seems to emanate from a copper-wound component (my knowledge of microelectronics is sketchy, not sure what it is).
Tried doing an ebay search but didn’t turn up a repair listing. Have you got any further info on this?
Cheers for the tip,
Ewan

Update: sent board to QER ltd in Cumbria. Found them on google and they’ve been mentioned on this site before. Just under £50 quid. Will let you know how it goes 🙂 Ewan

Hi Ewan, yes that is exactly what burnt out on mine, I’ll await your outcome. if it fixes yours, I think my board will be going the same way, Cheers, Peter

Fault code meanings here…

It’s probably not the board.

Yeah, I had read that page of fault codes (and others) with interest. That’s why I tested out the heating element and pressure switch first. Given the black smoke trails, I’m guessing the board has failed or something else has caused the board to fail. Either way I need the board repaired – it’s just a question of whether there’s another failure in the system somewhere.
I’ve read elsewhere on this forum that QER sometimes provide information about the source of the failure if it’s not the board itself.
Or are you suggesting that the black smoke is not necessarily a sign of failure?

No, more something has likely caused the board to fail.

Any suggestions about how to go about diagnosing what has caused the board to fail?

Ask an engineer to examine the appliance 💡

Update: Board had not failed. The wisps of black ‘smoke’ were carbon dust from the motor that were drawn to the electromagnetic coils on the board. Apparently it’s common to mistake this as a symptom of a burn-out 🙂 Plugged board back in, used a diagnostic flow chart to check the pressure switches (chart kindly provided by someone in the business – it’s a right pain that consumers can’t easily get hold of service manuals as the more technically minded of us are pretty proficient with the right information) and confirmed they were okay. Checked all contacts and wiring from the switches and the washer is now working. Still comes up with e41 when in diagnostic mode but everything functions as it should so I’m not concerned at this stage.
So, probably just a loose contact all along. No need for any replacement parts.
Cheers.
