I have a AEG competence double oven, model number is D4100-1M. Picture in link below:

    http://uk.shopping.com/AEG-Competence-D41001M/info?sb=1

We brought it in 2002 from John Lewis. We recently started to check how accurate the temperature was with a oven thermometer.

The temperature in the top oven is between 30-40 degrees too high. So if you set the oven at 180 degrees for example, the real temperature is about 210-220 degrees on the oven thermometer.

The temperature in the main oven is about 30 degrees too high. So if you set it to say 140 degrees, the temperature on the oven thermometer is about 170 degrees.

I suspect it’s been like that since we got it, no wonder cakes were coming out on the hard side.

Is there any way to correct this problem without calling a engineer? Oven works and still cooks but we use a thermometer to make sure temperature is set right now.

Re: AEG oven temperature always too high

you cannot adjust the temp only change the thermostats

    but beware

the top oven is a convection oven that is heated by 2 element. one is part of the grill element and the other one is below the floor. if you place your thermometer on the floor it will be heated by the lower element. it is best to pre heat before adding the thermometer and then it must be on a shelf

the main oven has 2 modes 1 convection as above so the same rules apply but also 2 fan mode which will be hotter where the air exits the fan unit at the rear. so its important to put the thermometer central

    Hi,

    Thanks for reply.

Done as you say, same sort of readings on the thermometer.

    Hi
Some continental oven thermostats can be recalibrated. Not recommended if the temperature has changed over the years but if they’ve both been like this from new it’s worth trying. Pull a knob off and have look to see if there’s a brass ring with slots around the shaft, where it enters the body of the ‘stat. If there is, turning it clockwise with a small screwdriver will make it run cooler. You’ll have to do it a bit at a time until you get it right.

Does it matter which knob you pull off? To do it due you pull it hard towards you?

Just remember that there’s a 10-15{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} variance in a domestic oven thermostat generally.

Then on top of that most cheap oven thermometers are notoriously inaccurate.

So, such a deviation isn’t really a shocker.

To temp test a static oven correctly needs time and multiple sensors.

You pull off the knob of the thermostat you want to re-calibrate and look at the shaft to see if it’s got a calibration ring. The knobs pull off the shaft towards you but looking at the photo of your cooker it’s difficult to see if they come straight off or if you have to remove the control panel fascia first.

I have taken one of the knobs off, I’ve taken this picture of the inside.

I can’t see a calibration ring, looks like there is a control-knob shaft in the centre. Any suggestions?

    It’s not adjustable.

What’s the PNC or product code on the rating plate, it’s inside the oven door opening?

Can’t read that information as its all come off with use of oven cleaner down the years. Only know model number is D4100-1M

Re: AEG oven temperature always too high

Okay, if that’s correct there should only be the one version but, if you’re working from that old listing alone then it could well be wrong.

In the D4100 range there are 13 versions I can find so are you sure of the model as in, that came from the rating plate?

If it’s the thermostat shown at position one on the following then it is sadly obsolete.

I’m not 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure about the model now if there were 13 versions. The picture of the oven I posted looks exactly like ours.

Hope the oven fails soon, want a new one.

    How good are NEFF?

    Want that model.

And how good is their circofurm (spelling)? Some people complain that it heats up 20 degrees less than it should.

Re: AEG oven temperature always too high

    Neff seem pretty good ovens.

Thing about them all is this, they all have some variance in them unless you’re cooking like Heston Blumenthal scientifically and needing complete precision you’re unlikely to notice or, adjust your cooking to suit.

If you do want or need that sort of precision in temperature though, it will come at a steep price.

I’d recommend Neff. They come with two years’ mfr’s g’tee, have in general good after sales service and the parts are easy to get for a long time.
