    Model AEG Santo
    N91842-4i
    Type B256996
    PNC 925697714
    Serial 82600016
I had this Fridge/Freezer for 2 years and the defrost heater failed. I forced AEG to repair it they sent out a technician who fitted a new defrost heater. 2 years on same thing happened. I tried to buy defrost heater but was told that it was a new part number so ordered it @ £115! When it arrived it is the complete evaporator and defrost heater combined. I am pretty certain I can not replace this myself as the pipe needs to be connected to the compressor so presumably would need re-gassing and specialist knowledge? My questions are: Is it true you have to replace the complete assembly or can I still just buy the heater element? Second is this a normal life for this part? If it’s best to replace the whole assembly any idea of cost of an engineer to replace this part for me.
The part came from an Electrolux stock. Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

Re: AEG Santo Defrost heater/evaporator question

It’s not uncommon to have to buy the complete evaporator just to get the heater, so this is probably correct. You’ll be able to unclip the heater from the evaporator, unclip the one already on your appliance and then refit the new one.
In answer to your second question, how do you know the defrost heater has failed? Have you checked it with a meter?

Yes, got nothing on meter. Just surprised having had 2 that only lasts 2 years each. Last freezer I had lasted 5 years with nothing needed and that was a cheap one. Bought this AEG thinking it would be at least as good. Thanks for info on part, you can buy other heaters for only £40-£50 which I would have accepted more happily
