ParticipantNever come across a heat pump dryer before – interesting.
Anyway, the drive belt has snapped – by the look of it, due to overload. The drum feels a bit reluctant to rotate by hand. This machine does not have a central real bearing, instead it relies on felt type seals front and rear, and four nylon supporting wheels. The wheels spin freely, but there is maybe about 10mm of up and down play in the drum. I suspect that the seals are worn, but at the ludicrous price AEG charge, I’m reluctant to change them without being reasonably sure I need to.
Anyone else come across similar? Thanks in advance for any help.

I would suggest you do change the front and rear seals as well as the belt. The drum should easily turn when the belt is off or disconnected from the motor shaft. If you want a copy of the service manual then email me. 😉

Hi Martin,
Sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner. Yes, the emails have been a great help and it’s great to be able to enhance my appliance knowledge. Will be doing the job on Saturday probably and I’ll post on here with an update.
Thanks very much

Hi Martin,
Job done satisfactorily on Saturday. Pleasure to work on machines like these – a far cry from wobbly Hotpoint dryers. The machine had spent its first couple of years in an unheated garage. The air seals had a ring of rust on their sealing surfaces which had increased friction with the drum interface, causing difficult rotation culminating in belt breakage. Hopefully the customer will take heed, and give this expensive appliance house room from now on.
Thanks again Martin
