ParticipantHi i went to this AEG lavatherm 57560 tumble dryer today which wasn’t heating. The heater has a 5 pin block connector, the middle pin doesn’t make a circuit to any of the others so i traced the wire to what looks like a resistor on the heater. Does anyone know can i just replace this component as the price of new heater is £110+vat to me :eeek: any advice would be really appreciated thanks Peter :salute:

the resistor is usually a thermal fuse if is bullet shaped with the pointed end coloured, the colour sometimes denotes the temperature. Also the temperature is usually written on the side of the fuse eg:240c
once you have identified the colour you should be able to obtain one from electrue for pence.cheers

you are very welcome
This trade is full of such examples, as I am sure you know of a few, where the manufacturer wants you to buy a complete unit when with an extra bit of knowledge you can save the customer money and up your standing with them/
keep the customer & ultimately your self happy 😆keep up the good work

The thermal fuse is equivalent to a non-resettable toc. Thus you may find the problem recurs if stat tuns out to be faulty. Keep your fingers crossed.

very true Mike, we have changed quite a few thermal fuses on aeg dryers & they have all lasted a long time, I dont know wether this type of thermal fuse “tires” with age, usually the reason has been blocked filters or restricted vent.
so hopefully the customer will be okdavid
