Our tumble drier (code 916 092 498 0 0, serial 54963026) often stops at the stage when the drum is due to reverse and fails to restart. A gentle tap on the back of the white plastic moulding which houses the pcb assembly makes it restart. Can this fault be resolved easily and at a cost worth paying?

Sounds like either a bad joint or a sticking relay on the PCB. I’d be guessing a relay though. Should be quite easy to fix if you are ok with soldering and can see a part number on the relay..

had the identical fault on an AEG dryer and was just a bad solder joint
