ParticipantI have an AEG T61275AC condenser tumble dryer. In the middle of a cycle the drum when the drum periodically stop turning it sometimes wont start again on its own (but will if i press the stop/sart switch) and then eventually gets an E50 error.
When it does start I notice that immediately before starts there is a click (like a relay), but when it won’t start there is no click. Pressing the start button will get the click and a start. The click appears to come from the PCB area.
When it starts the motor works fine and whenver there is a click the motor starts.Any help / guidance as to what might be the cause welcome.
Here are AEG diagrams/ parts for machine:

difficult to say what is causing this but its all to do with the motor and its control
E50 is a range of fault codes starting E51 to E59. the exact code can only be found accessing engineering mode.
one fault is motor overheat due to heavy loads does it make any difference with load size

THanks for your reply Dave,
Can I access engineering mode somehow to find out?
The tumbler was drying towels, although I’d say not as many as it’s done before. I did take some out and it continued not starting, but maybe it didn’t cool enough.
I have taken out the capacitors to test, trying to rule them out.
the 4 microF start one tested OK with multimeter, building up in resistance when swapped over terminals. The 7 microF one just shows infinite resistance both ways so I’ve ordered a replacement as it’s under a tenner if only to rule it out. ( I did check here but not similar capacity / mounting).
I must say I’m not hopeful as I don’t see if it was the run capacitor why it would start when I used the start/stop button, but not mid cycle, but worth a shot.
The tumbler is less than 3 years old, but of course past its 2 year warranty.
I noticed quite a bit of black belt? residue see photo- is that normal.
Wanted to have a look at the PCB but need to figure out how to remove the cover – end tabs didnt do anything.Do most technicians have access to the engineering mode and the ability to really diagnose an issue like this.

The above method to access engineering mode didn’t work on my dryer.
I tested again and made a video of the drum stopping and the difference between when it stops and doesnt start and when it stops, clicks and then restarts.

Replacement motor run capacitor resistance tested across terminals one way and the other and confirmed different to suspect one. Replaced and worked fautlessly for full 1hr 25min cycle.
It surprised me that the run capacitor gave the symptoms I found.
Fingers crossed it lasts and hope this helps someone else. Thanks for assistance. -
