and machine stops at no recognisably consistent point in cycle. Refuses to restart but may do so if left for a few hours / a day maybe or sometimes if start button pressed repeatedly. Once m/c restarts, it appears to continue from where it left off (i.e. programme memory retained.)
Going Friday. Any thoughts as to what I might look for?

A power supply problem I would imagine Mike.

Will it cut out if you just turn it on but don’t start a program? Assuming that power to the appliance, through the suppressor and selector switch remains constant then this post may help – I know it isn’t the same board but it is the same principle although the power supply chip may be a different number.

Went to look yesterday. First thing I did was check for bearings and I felt a slight rumble so immediately advised customer that there was major work going to be needed within 3 months. (And silently sighed with relief that it wasn’t going to be worth spending hours on this one.)
The problem appears to me to be in the fascia board as the display and all lights can be made to disappear by applying pressure to the fascia whilst the m/c is operating. It continues to operate though, just lights out. I pulled the board out thinking it might be a tactile switch job but the only one that gets used checked out fine. I firmed up the connectors, put it back and it seemed a bit more positive and less inclined to flicker at start up. Left her to run it for a while (apparently it’s been doing this for some time) with instructions to call me should it all start working wonderfully and she wants the bearings done. But it’s a 2003 machine and I think she’ll be going shopping for a Bosch in due course.
    Thanks for the suggestions.
Jem, I saw that same chip in a ZWF1432 yesterday (different board shape.) Looks like it could be a common problem. Didn’t get the main board out on this one – too much of a hassle, so much easier on the newer models.

It is a switch mode power supply chip which you will find fitted to many boards across several manufacturers, it seems to have been replaced by a TNY264GN (not a straight drop in) in later boards.
