ParticipantHi, I have a AEG Competence U3100-4-M Double Oven. What has started happenning is that when you try to turn on the main fan oven (bottom control knob) nothing happens – no red neon/led indicator or light in the oven, no fan and no heat being generated.
The timer unit is working fine and there is no oven “on” timer delay set. The second oven and grill at the top work fine, so I can cook, but not having the main fan oven is real pain.
I changed the element in the main fan oven about 18 months ago myself and it has been working great until now – the oven stopped heating up when I needed to change the element, this fault is different though with no lights or fans either, so I suspect it’s not the element this time.
Does anyone know what might be the problem and if it can be fixed easily?
Many Thanks.

It does seem to be timer related – are you sure that it is set to manual? Turn the oven off at the wall switch. Turn the main oven selector to any temperature setting. Switch the oven on at the wall switch again. Set the time of day.
If that fails, the problem lies either in the clock (duff relay) or a selector switch has failed on its main switches.Power off at the wall switch and the fusebox / consumer unit before any investigation inside. :plug:

Hi,
I have tried the power off to completely reset it fix. Didn’t work. Had to leave it powered off a few minutes before the clock would reset to 12:00.
Had it completely off at the fuse panel as well later in the day as I took the top cover off to see if there was anything obvious such as loose cables or burnt out components as other posts mentioned this – all looks fine to the eye.
Do you know how I could narrow it down to the clock/timer or a switch? I am thinking the main control knob switch is most likely as the timer works OK for the second oven?
Regards,

The clock switches the oven by relay – then the relay supplies the selector switch. The only thing you can do is test for continuity to the switch as Forum Rules (and H&S law) means we cannot advise you how to test the switchgear especially as it may involve running the machine in a live state with the cabinet off. We also cannot issue wiring diagrams for the same reasons.
Thanks for understanding. Power off before any investigation. :plug:

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the reply. It sounds like it may be worth me getting an engineer to look at it then. However, before I do, does anyone think this would be easily solved by an engineer and the parts not too expensive?
It just that if it’s likely the engineer will not be able to fix and advise me to get a new oven, or the parts for this really expensive, it would seem a waste to spend around £100 on the callout just to be told this…and then having to get a new oven or the parts costing nearly as much…
Cheers,
Jase -
