KeymasterI purchased an AEG 86720 in 2000 and after 4 years it needed new
brushes for its motor (£25, i was a little anoyed, but got over it)
and then 12 months later, the circuit boards that control the motor
have blown. It has been inspected by Service Force engineer and is
quoted at £400 for the circuit boards and replacement motor.
I paid £700 back in 2000 and AEG are doing nothing to help. I bought
an AEG because i expected top quality product and expected first class
support from their customer service. I am upset and disappointed with
my washing machine and with AEG. I will never buy an AEG-Electrolux product again.August 28, 2005 at 11:46 pm #146082Penguin45

The good news bit was that if you got your brushes done for £25 it was a steal. No point in being annoyed about it – they are a consummable item and will wear out regularly.
Thing is, that since AEG became part of Electrolux the product has changed – the machines are now Zanussi derived, even though they are built in Germany, so it’s partly badge engineering and trading on the name.
I suppose it could have been worse – you could have bought a Servis or a Beko or even a Hotpoint. At least they would have failed under guarantee.
Seriously, if you have £700 to spend on a washer, buy the bottom of the range Miele. Mercedes Benz quality, good wash performance, reliable and bloody expensive to fix if they go wrong. In my (considerable) experience, they don’t.
I have deleted the duplicate post.

Sorry about the duplicate post.
Nah, i don’t think i can afford to spend another £700 on a washer. At the time, i did not realise AEG were part of Electrolux/Zanussi. Which ever way i look at it, i need £400 to get a washer back, either fix the AEG, which i don’t wanna do or buy a £400 washer – i have been looking at the following range of 4 Bosch machine’s, from the Bosch WFO2467 at around £300 to the Bosch WFX2868 at around £400.
I think they all come with a 2 year manufacturer warranty and if this last 4 to 5 years, i think i’d be fairly happy, though still annoyed at German products decline in quality.

Bosch is decent enough stuff. A lot of the indies are coming round to them. Gorenje is a newish name on the market with a decent reputation for a quality product at a sensible price.
An unfortunate expression with regard to your recent experience, is that by and large you gets what you pays for, so don’t go too cheap.

Well AEG have probably diluted its quality for cheaper parts since becoming part of Electrolux/Zanussi. Anyway, thanks for your comments so far. It may sound pathetic, but i have been really p/ssed off with what has happened with my machine, more because i feel i make sound judgements and spend wisely, even if i do spend a little more on products. I’m getting nowhere with AEG and i will continue to complain.
Bosch are probably still fairly high on the quality stakes, therfore i think (i hope) i get a decent machine. Do you know anywhere i could check reviews of the machines i have listed, even if they are previous models?

Cannot help but think about brushes replaced for £25…… By who and with what? could have contributed to the further problem.

I fitted the brushes, purchased from AEG spares in Tamworth. Number was given to me by AEG customer services. When i rang and asked for the brushes, i was told they only come with the holders, never knew any better and at the time was glad that it was not a bigger problem, considering my machine was only 4 years old at the time of my first C9 error. I replaced the brushes and it was fine up until last week or so. I checked the brushes and they appeared to be fine, still plenty of length.

What do you think of Tribal UK? I have found the Bosch WFX2868 for near £400, which is probably a middle of the range machine from Bosch.

Sorry, that should have been Bosch WFX2868

I’ll second that.
I’ve seen it so many times. Non-genuine brushes or brushes not fit properly by a qualified engineer, will cause circuit board/module problems after a while. 🙁

I think the big internet retails companies can never offer the level of service and speed that local independents can.
How long for delivery? How much for delivery? Do they install the new machine? Will they get rid off the old machine?

I managed to find a high street company who sells online – gave them a call, chatted to them, very friendly and the guys checked Bosch for delivery times and has placed my order. If all goes well, i should get my machine Monday.
As for brushes, since i was given the number of a service centre by AEG, i’d expect the parts to be genuine and similar quality.
I wish i could afford to have the machine inspected by independent engineer, who only has the interests of the customer and not the manufacturer.
I am pretty confident something has caused my machine to fail, which is due to manufacturing and not just the normal wear and tear of use. Circuit boards don’t just decide to blow, components don’t just fail – they have a tolerance level and the normal operating conditions are well within these levels. Hard pill to swallow, but looks like i will just have to accept it.

As in 6 days off?
If you lived in Burnley or Pendle, I’d sort you out tomorrow. 😉 😀
Maybe today, but it’s nearly 5pm now. 😕
