ParticipantDo induction motors have replacable parts which wear out like carbon brushes? Do induction motors just stop working? Are they repairable?a
AEG L76825
prod no. 91452531300
Type P6959538
Ser no. 642 00009
motor no. 147101001 CE SET
went to mothers 50 miles away to find which carbon brushes needed to fix her none spinning washing machine. Took motor off, couldnt find brushes (which i have fitted many times before on various machines). Took motor home and after more investigation find it is an induction motor which i didnt know existed and doesnt have brushes i dont think. Do these motors have any replaceable parts that wear out?Machine is 9 yr old but in fantastic condition as lives on her own. Now i realise it may not be a faulty motor and even more so as it did drain and spin properly when i tried it. But i thought while i was there i would check brushes to see if need replacing as am over there next wekkend. Hence removal of motor. Have motor with me at home and will put back on next weekend.
Many thanks Grahami am not a technician but my son fixes commercial appliances gas and electric for a living.

ModeratorInduction motors are generally more reliable and much quieter than brush gear motors. The bearings and the tachometer can fail. Again not common failures and those parts hardly ever available as spares. If it did spin then that would suggest the motor is fine. Did it revolve at all on a wash programme?
Could it possibly have been an OOB (out of balance) fault? If the drum does revolve without a load on a wash programme ask her what was the last load she had in the machine that failed to spin. Single, heavy items or small loads of one or two towels etc can cause OOB.

ParticipantMany thanks for the reply. If because of unbalanced load, think it was only one item, would it show an error code?

ModeratorNot usually, entering the diagnostic mode would do.
OOB is more of a problem for single people who don’t often have enough for a full load.
