ParticipantI have one of these, about 3 years old. Model DH1/801922. It appears to run but after a few seconds the refrigerant compressor stops and it displays “Lo”. After this it just blows air and does not collect any water. I suspect that there is a sensor fault that is telling it that the assigned humidity low point has been reached so it no longer needs to run the refrigerator section. Can anyone help with fault diagnosis please? I don’t have fridge gear test equipment, obvious;y, so if it has lost its refrigerant (R290, 50g, it says) then I am done.

Moderatorif it had lost refrigerant then the compressor would still run but would not remove water

ParticipantYes, that’s true, good point. Thanks. I have seen on YouTube somebody diagnose a faulty overheat sensor, I’ll have a look at that. It might be a cheap fix. If however it has lost gas then the kit to do it is £40-50 including the gas, and that makes it BER. If I had a few to do it would be worth it, but a one-off repair is a non starter.

Moderatoryes but the compressor would still run on low gas so it would be hot to touch
is the compressor hot to touch , if yes then its BER

ParticipantThe compressor doesn’t run more than a few seconds so it doesn’t get time to become hot. I think I’ll try bypassing the overheat switch to see if that makes it run. At least then I can run other diagnostics. Does this sound reasonable?

Moderatorok does it run for a few seconds and goes off but if you leave it on its comes back on for a few seconds 3 to 5 mins later then repeats ?

ParticipantNo, it doesn’t come back on, the compressor stays off and only the fan runs. The compressor only comes back on if you unplug it and reconnect it. If you do that then the compressor runs for a few seconds as before before shutting down.

Moderatorok so its a controls issue with measuring the humidity
dont know how the measure that. probably some sort of sensor feeding back to a board
I would as a long shot check the board for bulging capacitor. (do a google search) which can upset power supplies

ParticipantGood idea, I know how to check for leaky caps.

ParticipantLo usually means the room is too cold (<10°C) or already very dry, so it shuts the compressor and just runs the fan.
Try it in a warm, steamy bathroom or switch to Continuous/Laundry if it collects there; placement was the issue.
If it still shows Lo in a warm, humid room, clean the filter and reseat/replace the humidity sensor (common, inexpensive).
Refrigerant loss won’t normally trigger Lo; R290 repairs should be done by a shop. -
