ParticipantJust wondered how many of you repair ALL makes of appliances & how you get on when you get stuck! – as I’m sure we all do.
I stick to what I know , but are getting more & more people ringing for Samsung,
LG, Bush, Miele, Panasonic, Beko.
Have just started doing Beko, (after looking at a mates ) they dont seem too bad.
But what are the others like.Have been in the trade for 35 yrs, but have always avoided the unknown.
I use the tech forum from time to time, but feel when a customer calls you out , you should know how to fix it, not play around in the dark.!Clive.

will look at anything and always have. you only gain experience by looking and most machines work on similar principles. if you cant do it say so and walk away most customers respect honesty.
miele is top of the range, parts can be expensive but not too bad to maintain
bush is vestel turkish rubbish. spares can be a problem
lg seen a few cant repair panels when they fail as the encapsulate them but most likley problems is pump failure
Panasonic only seen 1 up to now and it was brush failure
beko not too bad but they are getting more common but have acces to tech on them

Fair Enough Dave.
I think its a personal choice with me, as I like to keep within my comfort zone.
Been doin’ most makes for a long time & they all seem to have there own “common Fault”.
Its the newer brands that I feel I have to learn again. (even switching the thing on! )
Dont Know whether I can be arsed at my age , as I keep busy doing the makes I’m really familiar with & never have to “walk away”.

It is quite surprising the number of people that register for the engineer search and say that they repair “all brands” only for us to get an email back when a call for something a bit less common is received say, “we don’t do that make”.
Worse, from customers who use it telling us that the repairer told them they don’t repair something that they have listed.
Just keep in mind that “all makes” is a massive variety and includes things that nobody else wants to know about.
Dave is correct and the difficulty in getting or complete lack of spares supplies or any spares/tech info are the largest hurdles generally.

I tend to avoid Miele for two reasons that they are expensive on parts and I don’t know much about them. But I can sell the Miele appliances as long I have a second helper to shift that 100kg washer.
Shame as I could retain the customers for the repair but with 5 years guarantee I guess they will leave you alone for a very long time.
