The display is showing the correct temperature for the freezer (-18), but the fridge is displaying -7 degrees (supposed to be 3 degrees) and lots of the food is frozen.

The kitchen is being decorated at the moment, and the f/f has been shifted back/forward over the tiles a couple of times, is it possible this movement dislodged a thermostat or something … ?

We’ve only had this for a few weeks. It had some minor cosmetic damage so we got it cheap and with only a 60 day warranty (which we are well inside) But if it’s just something simple I’d rather fix it myself …

    Any advice gratefully received …

It does sound like a thermostat fault.

    I wouldn’t think it’s anything you’ve done that’s causing it.

it’ll be a problem with the damper, its either frozen open or the return spring fallen out. Its best to get it done under the warranty

OK, thanks to both for your input. I pushed the F/F back into place yesterday and the temperature slowly climbed back up, but refuses to go back to normal. It’s hovering around 0 degrees.

Will make a call on the warranty

Follow up : damper replaced under warranty (or rather, they sent me a new damper and I replaced it the evening) The old part had a lot of ice on the back of the damper door and around the spring. Certainly enough ice to interfere with the spring and prevent it from fully closing the damper door.

The question is – if ice built up around the old damper, what’s to stop it happening again with the new unit ? Is there perhaps another problem at the root of this ?

One strange thing I have noticed – if I switch the power off then on again, the temperatures displayed for the fridge and freezer are always different than before the power was switched off. Why would that be ? Does the display give an averaged temperature reading and ‘rebooting’ the fridge resets that ?

A final, more general question if I may – how many temperature sensors are in these units ? For example, the fridge temperature is displayed on the LED display, so there is a sensor for that, but is that the same sensor which controls the damper door or is that separate ?

Many thanks, as always, for any advice.

    /Pete

Have attached an image showing ice on the back of the old damper door.

Just out of interest, can anyone tell me what that is at the bottom of the picture – is that a temperature sensor ?

THERE IS A HEATER KIT THAT U CAN GET FOR THE DIFFUSER. IT SHOULD HAVE BE FITTED WITH THE NEW DIFFUSER. IT SHOULD STOP ICE SITING AROUND THE DIFFUSER

Thanks for the info – I’ve been trying to track down the part you refered to, but the Whirlpool Parts Department have not heard of it. I don’t suppose you have a part number at all ?

    Many thanks,
