KeymasterHi
We are looking to buy a new American style side by side fridge / freezer for our new kitchen. We’ve spent quite a while trawling through this site, and it seems we can’t really afford a “proper” American fridge / freezer (£2000 upwards) but have narrowed it down to these 4 choices.
They are all under £1000 (except the Bosch which is slightly over this)
They are all black (except the GE’s)
All water & iceQuestion is which one to go for? We simply can’t afford to pay £2000+ for a much better one so which one of these 5 would you choose, or if none, then which alternative? I’ve added the 2 GE models after hearing them recommended time & time again on this site, so perhaps one of these GE ones would be the safest bet? Or are these “cheaper” GE models made somewhere else (by Whirlpool or someone)!
LG GWL227YBQA
Bosch KAN58A50GB
Samsung RSH1DBBP
GE GC23LMG
GE GC23LDCMany Thanks

If you want an American style fridge that works, buy an American one. The first three on your list aren’t…….

Fair point, but isn’t it viable to buy, say the LG one, and spend an additional £150 or so on a 5 year extended warranty? That way it comes with the same 5 year warranty that the GE ones do as standard? I know it can be a false economy looking for the “cheapest” one, but we really do have a maximum budget of approx £1000 so any more is really pushing it!

How much of your holiday entitlement do you wish to use up, waiting for service calls?
Seriously, it’s late and you obviously have a bit of time on your hands – use the “search” facilty and have a read through the Fridge Forum. A lot of it isn’t pretty reading. If you really want to do this, Admiral and Armana should be serious considerations as well as the GE stuff. You shouldn’t consider anything less, as the rest are budget copies. £800 for a budget copy? Yup!
The Retail Guru – Don – will be on in the morning and will be able to give you some rather more specific guidance. I just fix stuff. 😀
